_Black-winged Petrel (Pterodroma nigripennis)

_ This species breeds on both Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. They are characterised by the amazing ability to fly at high speed, looking for all the world like jet-fighter aircraft. They can perform high speed manoeuvres , swooping and rolling as they go. Sometimes they fly as perfectly synchronised pairs as part of courtship. These image were taken on Ned’s Beach on Lord Howe Island in late November and early December.
