White Tern (Gygis alba)
A beautiful, almost angelic, little bird that lives in the Norfolk Island Pines that are plentiful around the main settlement. They can be easily approached hence making them easy to observe. They do not make a traditional nest but rather lay an egg in a hollow on the branch of a pine tree. Once the young chick hatches it clings to the branch while the adults go fishing for food, often returning with numerous small fish lined up in their beak.
