Fraser Island

Visited the island in September 2010 staying at the Kingfisher Bay Resort located on the Western side of the island. We took our vehicle across on the vehicle ferry, which leaves from River End on the mainland. There were plenty of birding opportunities within close proximity of the resort along with lots of great scenery around the island.

The following birds were photographed around Kingfisher Bay Resort in September

Bar-shouldered Dove (Geopelia humeralis)
Black-faced Cuckoo-Shrike (Coracina novaehollandiae)
Blue-Faced Honeyeater ((Entomzon cyanotis)
Buff-Banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis)
Dusky Honeyeater (Myzomela obscura)
Grey Shrike-Thrush (Colluricincla harmonica)
Lewin's Honeyeater (Meliphaga lewinii)
Red-Backed Fairy-Wren (Malurus melanocephalus)
Scarlet Honeyeater (Myzomela sanguinolenta)
Spangled Drongo (Dicrurus bracteatus)
Varied Triller (Lalage leucomela)
Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena)
White -Cheeked Honeyeater (Phylidonyris nigra)
Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus)

The following are links to stories, including photos, describing the encounters with some of the listed birds:
Buff-Banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis)
